Picky Eating in the Classroom
Setting up for Mealtime Success
- 40 New Zealand dollars$40
What do we do when a child won't eat? How can we help support children with feeding challenges or 'picky eating'? Eating is one of our most important tasks, yet is the most complex task that any of us will ever do. Encouraging feeding development and supporting children experiencing feeding challenges can be tricky. This workshop seeks to introduce kaiako to the complexities of eating and why it can be so difficult for some children to eat and enjoy a range of foods. We will discuss strategies for supporting these children, strengthening the knowledge of kaiako in managing mealtime behaviors, and increasing the acceptance of foods in ECE settings. Kaiako will leave with baseline knowledge of feeding challenges and skills in supporting tamariki with their feeding development. This session will cover - Facts about feeding including Paediatric Feeding Disorder: When is it more than just ‘fussy eating’ - The research for preschool supporting fruit and vegetable consumption - Setting up for success: Setting up the environment for successful mealtimes - Managing common mealtime behaviours: When the child won’t eat PRESENTED BY REBECCA BARNARD - DIRECTOR OF NOURISH FEEDING THERAPY Rebecca is an Occupational Therapist, Paediatric Feeding Specialist and the Director of Nourish Feeding Therapy, specialising in children experiencing feeding challenges.
